Lesson 2
The Concept of 'Wizard Space'
With the context of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy in our table, we are now aware the careful approach of the wizarding world to geographical space. Wherever a wizarding event is about to take place, it is of utmost matter to not make mistake that would lead to violation of the statute. Some geographical implications of the statute we will discuss in this lesson.
In addition, we’ll also discuss what we call 'wizard space'. Wizard space is the perspective of witches and wizard to spaces and places as a whole. We see it different the way Muggles see it. Muggles have their laws of physics governing physical and earthly phenomena including spatial ones. However, we witches and wizards have our own wizard physics and magical laws that shape the way we view our world.
Adopting this to places and spaces, we wizards treat wizard space as a common occurrence. For example:
There are more examples of this phenomenon in the wizarding world, something that we take for granted, that we are not aware of. There is also the:
Other results of wizard space to wizarding society are seen in its many implications to spells, potions and other aspects of wizarding life. There are some of the spells:
For sure, magic as the center of a witch and wizard’s life affects aspects of his or her life and perspective on space is not an exception. Magic on space or magical space is utilized in everyday life in the context of the wider International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy. In the next lesson, we’ll proceed on the wider issues of space and place in the wizarding world as implemented by the Ministry of Magic.

- Molly Weasley was not at all surprised when their Ford Anglia can hold more people and cargo than it should.
- Cauldrons can also hold a lot of stuff. When Harry dumped all of the Lockhart books to Ginny’s cauldron, it didn’t get too heavy for her.
There are more examples of this phenomenon in the wizarding world, something that we take for granted, that we are not aware of. There is also the:
- Undetectable Extension Charm – which Hermione used on her bag for their travel to find the horcruxes. Apparently, the Undetectable Extension Charm extends the internal dimensions of the target object without affecting the external dimensions. With this charm, one can extend this space manipulation from small things like bags to big things like tents and the like.
Other results of wizard space to wizarding society are seen in its many implications to spells, potions and other aspects of wizarding life. There are some of the spells:
- Vanishing Spells – makes something vanish or to go away completely. Professor Mcgonagall answered that vanished objects go into non-being, or to everything. That is a demonstration how wizard space traverses physical space and go beyond the limitless spatial cover of ‘everything’ as Professor Mcgonagall said.
- Fidelius Charm – An immensely complex spell involving the magical concealment of a secret inside a single, living soul. The information is hidden inside the chosen person, or Secret-Keeper, and is henceforth impossible to find -- unless, of course, the Secret-Keeper chooses to divulge it. This charm is used to conceal places (and the people inside it) from the outside world for protection or whatever reason. This is another demonstration how wizard space is deeply tangled with the powers of wizarding magic.
- Room of Requirement in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry – a room that magically appears and provides the person his or her deepest need at the time. Awesome, this one is!
